Old Navy, Ped Safe & Community Partners Create “Super Safety Event”

Nationally, old Navy celebrated their annual “Super Safety Event” across the USA on September 29th, by focusing on childhood safety. Stores across the country partnered with the Center for Missing and Exploited Children and with community partners to make their city safer.

Ped Safe Nevada was lucky to partner with the Boulevard Mall and the Old Navy store there.  We brought bicycle and pedestrian safety to  the event in a major way! Armed with free helmets for the kids attending, provided by NDOT’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Safety program, we fitted close to 100 kids with helmets.

Then the kids learned about pedestrian safety and the importance of  stopping at the edge and looking both ways, and then they got to practice pushing the buttons on a traffic signal and how the signals work and help you be safer crossing.  Carl Magnuson from RTC/FAST was there to man the signal and have fun with the kids.

We partnered with Ruby Thomas Elementary School and Dean Petersen  Elementary School to bring students to the event. Students were given a SALLY (Save A Life Like Yours) coloring sheet and invited to color the page and enter it into a drawing for a bike. The back wall of the store was papered with coloring sheets, and lucky Rayniyah from Petersen was the winner!

Thanks to our awesome partners at the Boulevard Mall, especially Patrice Donnley and Jeff White from Old Navy and his loss prevention crew; and to Maggie Saunders from Penna Powers, expert helmet fitter.
