Announcing the Winners of the 2024 “Save A Life, Win A MacBook” Contest!

Greetings, Road Equity Alliance community!

We are thrilled to announce the winners of our annual “Save A Life, Win A MacBook” contest. This year, our talented participants once again showcased their creativity and dedication to promoting pedestrian safety. The winners were revealed during a ceremony on May 9, 2024, and their impactful artwork will soon be seen across the Las Vegas Valley.

Grand Prize Winner: Kara D. from Liberty High School

Kara D. has earned the grand prize of an Apple MacBook Air for her outstanding poster addressing safety for both drivers and pedestrians. Kara’s artwork will be prominently displayed on several bus shelter locations across Southern Nevada, reminding everyone of the importance of road safety. Her winning design captivated the judges with its clear message and striking visuals, perfectly suited to catch the attention of passersby.

iPad Winner: Stephanie M. from Valley High School

Stephanie M. was awarded an Apple iPad for her compelling message encouraging pedestrians to use crosswalks. Her poster will be displayed inside RTC buses, ensuring that her important reminder reaches a wide audience of commuters. Stephanie’s dedication to spreading awareness through her art exemplifies the spirit of this contest.

"I just like the idea of being able to express things through art, so I felt very honored to have participated in my community and to spread awareness for something as serious as traffic safety," said Stephanie.

Celebrating the Impact of Student Art

In addition to the prizes, the winning students will join local leaders and teachers for a special breakfast held in their honor. This celebration acknowledges their contributions and emphasizes the significance of their efforts in promoting road safety.

The alarming statistics shared by Clark County officials highlight the importance of this initiative. With at least 128 students hit while going to and from school, a more than 90% increase compared to the last school year, the need for effective road safety education is clear. The “Save A Life, Win A MacBook” contest plays a vital role in helping students learn and practice road safety in their everyday lives.
